The Centre for Language and Brain at the exhibition of scientific projects dedicated to the visit of the delegation from Malaysia
The Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, Zambri Abdul Kadir, and members of the Malaysian delegation met with researchers from HSE University — St. Petersburg on October 10, 2024, at the exhibition of scientific projects.
The Centre for Language and Brain of the Institute of Health Psychology researchers presented the latest developments by the distributed team of the Centre (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and, more recently, St. Petersburg) to their Malaysian colleagues. The report by the director and academic supervisor of the Centre, Olga Dragoy, focused on digital tools for diagnosing and correcting speech disorders. Among these were applications for diagnosing attention, memory, and reading disorders, as well as a computer game designed to help children master reading skills. Minister Zambri Abdul Kadir participated in a booth demonstration of one of the applications.

"The distinctive feature of the Centre for Language and Brain digital products is their cross-linguistic potential. Our diagnostic and educational digital applications are already created as multilingual or can be adapted to any language in the world in the future. Each adaptation is far from just a translation; it involves significant redrafting that takes into account the specifics of each language and culture. For example, in the Malay language, the plural is expressed through reduplication — meaning 'volcanoes' is 'volcano-volcano.' We, as professional linguists, are ready for such challenges during adaptation."
